🍫 Making Chocolate, Not Just Selling It

When it comes to chocolate, most brands don’t actually make their own. Instead, they rely on industrial producers, separating themselves from the origins of their ingredients and the realities of cocoa farming.

We do things differently,” Ombar explained. “All our chocolate is made in-house, and we work directly with farmers’ cooperatives in Ecuador.

By building long-term relationships with these small-scale farmers, Ombar ensures every step of their process reflects care, transparency, and quality. It’s a hands-on approach that guarantees authenticity—from bean to bar.

Cacao farming is often exploitative, with farmers in many regions paid so little they live in poverty—even as global chocolate brands earn billions. Ombar is challenging this norm.

“We source all our cacao from fair trade cooperatives and pay well above market prices,” they shared.

“This supports farmers producing fine-quality cacao while fostering sustainable livelihoods.”

Sure, it means Ombar’s chocolate might cost a little more. But those extra pennies go toward creating a fairer world for the people behind the chocolate.

🌱 Protecting the Planet

Deforestation is a major issue in the chocolate industry. Many large-scale plantations grow hybrid cacao varieties in the sun, leading to the destruction of primary rainforests and devastating wildlife habitats. Ombar takes a different route.

Cacao trees naturally thrive in the shade of larger jungle trees.
That’s why we work exclusively with organic, smallholder farmers who cultivate cacao alongside other trees, creating a biodiverse and harmonious environment.

Ombar also actively monitors farms to ensure no deforestation occurs as part of their process. It’s a commitment to sustainability that goes beyond the chocolate bar.
